Meta Muse vs ChatGPT and Other AI Agents: Which Should You Use?
Published 7 min read
Meta Muse vs ChatGPT isn’t quite a fair fight, because they do different jobs. ChatGPT is mainly an assistant you chat with. Muse is a personal agent that takes actions for you, like booking a flight or filling out a form.
OpenAI’s closer match to Muse is dots, its always-on agent inside ChatGPT. The other big rivals are Claude Duet from Anthropic and Google’s Gemini Spark, now called Task. For the full field, see our roundup of the best personal AI agent apps.
Here’s the short version of Muse AI vs ChatGPT, as of October 2026:
- Want an agent for free? Muse is the only big one with a free tier.
- Want the best chat assistant? ChatGPT is the more complete all-rounder.
- Already pay for ChatGPT Pro? Try dots before paying for anything else.
- Live in Gmail and Google apps? Look at Gemini Spark (Task).
- Need help with work? Claude Duet is built for it, but it’s US-only for now.

Muse has grown fast. Sensor Tower data reported by TechCrunch shows 10 million US downloads in Muse’s first 40 days.
ChatGPT had 3.7 million in its own first 40 days. But Meta also advertised Muse heavily, and downloads don’t measure quality.
We couldn’t find an independent test that compares Muse and ChatGPT’s chat head to head as of October 2026.
Choose Muse if…
- You want an agent that does things, not just answers.
- You want to start for free.
- You want help with email, forms, shopping or booking flights.
- You use WhatsApp, Instagram or Facebook.
Choose ChatGPT (or dots) if…
- You mostly want answers, writing help and research.
- You live outside the US, Canada and Japan.
- You already pay for ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium, which includes a dot.
- You need help with big work projects in Slack or Microsoft Teams.
Meta Muse vs OpenAI dots
dots is the closest match to Muse: both are always-on agents with their own cloud computer and browser. Android Authority even called dots “OpenAI’s answer to Meta Muse.”
The biggest gap is price. Muse has a free tier. One dot comes with ChatGPT Pro (from $100 a month) or Business Premium, and there’s no free option.

One independent blog, AI Agents Library, tested both on six business tasks. dots averaged 9.08 out of 10 and Muse 7.75.
Muse did best on meeting prep. The author calls the test “directional,” so treat it as a hint.
Meta Muse vs Claude Duet for personal tasks
For personal tasks, Muse AI is a better fit than Claude Duet. Anthropic itself says Duet is “not quite as strong” at personal errands like booking tickets.
Duet is built for work. It sends a morning brief from your apps, checks them every few hours, and finds missed Gmail and Slack messages. It also connects to business tools like QuickBooks, Shopify, HubSpot and Docusign.
How they differ for everyday life:
- Phone calls: Muse can call US businesses in a beta. Duet can’t make calls.
- Watching the browser: with Muse, you can open its browser to watch or take over. Duet doesn’t let you watch yet.
- Where it works: Muse is in the US, Canada and Japan. Duet is US-only, with a waitlist.
- Price: Muse has a free tier. Duet comes with Claude Pro ($20 a month) or Max (from $100 a month).
They share some safety ideas. Both can pay with one-time Link or Shop Pay cards after you approve. Duet also asks before it sends, pays, signs or deletes anything.
It never trades stocks or moves money between accounts.

Meta Muse vs Gemini agent
Google’s personal agent is Gemini Spark, now called Task in the Gemini app. It’s the better pick if your life runs on Gmail and Google apps. Don’t mix it up with Google Cloud’s “Gemini agent,” which is a work product for businesses.
Gemini Spark (Task) runs in the cloud around the clock. Per Google’s help page, it can:
- Clean up your email, including unsubscribing from newsletters
- Watch flight and hotel prices
- Browse sites to shop, book travel or make reservations
- Work across Gmail, Calendar, Docs and Drive
It confirms before purchases, even when you’ve set “Always allow.” Muse also always asks before purchases.
| Meta Muse | Gemini Spark (Task) | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free tier; $20 or $100 a month | Google AI Pro (about $20) or Ultra ($100 or $200) |
| Countries | US, Canada, Japan | 160+ countries, not the EEA, UK, Switzerland or Nigeria |
| Age | 18+ | 18+ |
| Email unsubscribe | Not confirmed by Meta | Yes |
In the AI Agents Library test, Gemini Spark beat Muse on inbox triage (8.5 vs 6.0). It also edged ahead on a weekly brief (9.5 vs 9.0).
Best Meta Muse alternatives in 2026
The best Meta Muse alternatives are Gemini Spark (Task), ChatGPT dots and Claude Duet. Each suits a different kind of user. None of the big rivals is free.
| Alternative | Best for | Cost (as of October 2026) | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gemini Spark (Task) | Gmail and Google app users | Google AI Pro or Ultra | Not in the EEA, UK or Switzerland |
| ChatGPT dots | Research, software and team projects | ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium | Set up on desktop only |
| Claude Duet | Work and small-business tasks | Claude Pro or Max | US-only preview with a waitlist |
| OpenClaw | Tech-savvy people who want free | Free, open source | You host and set it up yourself |
| Grok Bot (xAI) | Trying an early always-on agent | Price not confirmed | Early beta since August 2026 |
| Instinct | Reaching an agent by text or call | No public price | Early access only |
Free alternatives: no rival personal agent is free. OpenClaw costs nothing, but it’s self-hosted, which takes technical skill. That makes Muse’s free tier unusual.
For business: Claude Duet is the most work-focused. Does your business run on Facebook and Instagram? Then Muse for Small Business adds your Meta ad accounts and Pages at no extra price.
Before you connect any agent to your accounts, check what it can see and do. Our Meta Muse privacy guide shows you how.
