Muse AI for Windows and Mac: How to Use Muse on a Computer
Published 6 min read
Looking for Muse AI for Windows? There’s no Windows app yet.
Microsoft says a native Muse app for Windows is coming soon, but nobody has shared a date. Until then, you can use Muse in any web browser at muse.ai.
Mac users have more choice. Meta makes a Mac app that you download from Meta’s own site. With your OK, it can work with your files and some of your Mac apps.
New to Muse? Start with our guide to what Meta Muse is. In short, it’s Meta’s personal AI agent that does tasks for you on its own cloud computer.
| Your computer | How to use Muse (as of October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Windows PC or laptop | No app yet. Use muse.ai in a browser |
| Mac | Meta’s Mac app, or muse.ai in a browser |
| Chromebook or other computer | muse.ai in a browser |
Is there a Muse AI app for Windows?
No, there’s no Muse AI app for Windows as of October 2026, but one is on the way. Microsoft announced it on October 7, 2026. Its blog post says Muse for Windows “is coming soon as a native app on Windows” but gives no date.
A native app is one you install, built for Windows itself.
Here’s what we know so far:
- Who announced it: Microsoft, at its Windows and Surface event on October 7, 2026. Meta hadn’t posted its own announcement, iPhoneInCanada reported.
- Release date: not announced.
- Windows 10 or 11: not announced. No system requirements have been shared.
- Where to get it: not announced. There’s no official Microsoft Store listing yet.
- Safety sandbox: Microsoft says the app will use MXC. That’s a Windows feature that limits which files and networks an AI agent can reach.
How to use Muse on a Windows PC
To use Muse on a Windows PC, open muse.ai in your browser and sign in with your Meta account. It works on desktops and laptops, with nothing to install.
- Open your browser, such as Edge, Chrome or Firefox.
- Go to muse.ai. It sends you to Meta’s sign-in page.
- Sign in with your Meta account. No account yet? You can create one with Facebook, Instagram, an email address or a phone number.
- Start a chat. Use the same Meta account you use on your phone.
The web app has one big limit. It can’t reach the files on your PC, iPhoneInCanada noted.
Muse still works on its own cloud computer, though. It can browse websites and use the apps you connect, like Gmail.
Muse also keeps working after you close the tab. It comes back when a task is done or it needs your approval.

Muse for Mac: how to download it
Download Muse for Mac only from Meta’s own download page, not the Mac App Store. Meta released the Mac app on September 17, 2026, according to iPhoneInCanada, which cited Mark Zuckerberg.
Get Muse for Mac(official site, opens in a new tab)- Open Meta’s Muse download page with the button above.
- Download and install the Mac app.
- Sign in with your Meta account. Use the same one as on your phone.
- Choose what Muse can use. You pick an access level for each Mac app, and you can change it later.
- Allow the Mac permissions you’re happy with. Meta lists Full Disk Access, Automation and Notifications.
A few things to know before you download:
- Requirements aren’t confirmed. Meta hasn’t published macOS or chip requirements for Muse. The “Apple silicon and macOS 15” figure you may see online is for Meta’s separate Meta AI Mac app.
- Access may vary. At launch, iPhoneInCanada described the download page as a waitlist for US users. We couldn’t confirm if it’s open to everyone as of October 2026.
- Skip the Mac App Store. A copycat called “Muse AI” copied Meta’s app description there. It was removed on September 29, 2026, Michael Tsai’s blog reported. The real Muse for Mac isn’t in the Mac App Store.
What Muse can do on your Mac
On a Mac, Muse can work with your files, Messages, Notes, Reminders, Mail and Calendar, if you allow it. That’s according to Meta’s Mac help page. Messages access is opt-in, so it stays off unless you turn it on.
You choose how much access Muse gets for each app:
| Access level | What it means |
|---|---|
| Off | Muse can’t use that app |
| Read only | Muse can look but not change anything |
| Read and interact | Muse can read the app and take actions in it |
You can change these later in Muse under Settings > File System Access. To remove the Mac permissions, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security on your Mac.
Muse doesn’t run on your Mac itself. The agent and its AI models run in Meta’s cloud, Macworld reported. So you need an internet connection, even on a Mac.
Muse desktop: web app vs Mac app
The big difference is access: the Mac app can use your Mac’s files and apps, while the web app can’t. Both sign in with your Meta account, and both run Muse in Meta’s cloud.
| Feature | Web app (muse.ai) | Mac app |
|---|---|---|
| Works on | Windows, Mac and other computers | Mac only |
| How to get it | Open muse.ai in a browser | Meta’s download page |
| Install needed | No | Yes |
| Files on your computer | No | Yes, if you allow it |
| Messages, Notes, Mail and more | No | Yes, app by app |
| Sign-in | Meta account | Meta account |
| Requirements | A web browser | Not published by Meta |
Pick the web app if you use Windows, share a computer, or just want to try Muse. Pick the Mac app if you want Muse to help with your files, notes, reminders or email on your Mac.

Frequently asked questions
Does Muse AI have a desktop app?
Yes, but only for Mac so far. Meta released a Muse app for Mac in September 2026, and you download it from Meta's own page. There's no Windows app yet, though Microsoft says a native one is coming soon. On any computer, you can also use Muse in a browser at muse.ai.
Is there Muse for Windows 11?
Not yet. Microsoft said on October 7, 2026 that Muse for Windows is coming soon as a native app. Neither Microsoft nor Meta has shared a release date or system requirements. For now, open muse.ai in Edge, Chrome or another browser on Windows 11 and sign in with your Meta account.
Is it safe to download Muse for Windows from other websites?
No. There's no official Muse download for Windows yet, so any site offering one is not from Meta. A fake Muse AI listing was reported on the Microsoft Store, and a copycat appeared on the Mac App Store. Use muse.ai in your browser until Meta or Microsoft releases the real Windows app.
